YOLKS, THE - Kings of Awesome LP
Second album - exlusively diststributed in Europe by BACHELOR!
THE YOLKS are a rock n roll band, pure and simple—nothing more, nothing less. Their purpose since their inception over eight years ago, has always been to be the greatest band they could be, and inspire everyone who witnessed them to dance, scream, spill beer, makeout with each other, act a fool, and otherwise have some fucking fun. This album, like their live set, is broken into two distinct parts. On side A they play simple, catchy garage pop/punk songs a la The Ramones, The Gizmos, or Nobunny, with an emphasis on good songwriting and memorable hooks. Side B represents the second half of a live Yolks set, in which they bring out a Hammond organ, and morph into the greatest soul/rhythm and blues/frat rock band around. This half of the set is full of blues progressions, cover songs, instrumentals – anything that will turn the part out. And on side B of this album we get two ripping instrumentals a la Booker T and the MGs, as well as a recording of their truly killer version of Ray Charles’ “What’d I Say” that has never failed to absolutely lay waste to all those who have witnessed it live. Standing alone, either of these two facets of The Yolks would be amazing. Taken together, these two halves make The Yolks truly incredible and set them apart any of the other band currently playing rock n roll. Buy this record, put it on your turntable, and see for yourself why The Yolks truly are THE KINGS OF AWESOME!!!
