JIMMY VAPID - Killmatic LP
"The Vapids have been a bastion of Canadian Ramones worship for almost thirty years. I’ll admit that I haven’t heard them in years, and I was curious to hear what this solo album from band leader Jimmy Vapid was all about. Right off the bat, there isn’t nearly as much up-front Ramones-ness as I expected. This album is more of a heavy riff-rock album. I imagine this is what Danko Jones would sound like fronting Apocalypse Dudes-era Turbonegro. I really dig this. The production is huge! There was a time when rock records like this were a dime a dozen and started to sound stale. Now isn’t that time, and this is a really fun listen. Go get your guitar fix! –Ty Stranglehold "
"Jim Reed aka Jimmy Vapid recently played drums on Full Moon Fever, a record by fellow Ontarian and Vapids bandmate Matt Ellis I very much enjoy. This month, Jimmy released a new solo album ominously titled Killmatic that
is also worth diving into. It has 14 punk rock anthems that are infused
with sleazy rock-‘n’-roll influences. Fast and catchy, straightforward
and tight, Killmatic is a record that doesn’t let up, and offers plenty
of tempo changes, hooks and variations to draw you in and satisfy your
short attention span." ADD TO WANTLIST Blog
