Often compared to Frank Sinatra and Dean Martin, Bobby Darin was one of the greatest American singers of his era. Born in the Bronx to a poor, working class family at the height of the Great Depression, Darins career took off in 1958 when he wrote and recorded Splish Splash, as a result of a bet with radio DJ Murray 'The K' Kaufman, who bet him that he could not write a song that started out with the words, splish splash, I was takin' a bath. Though he later became an actor, a comedian and even a political folk singer of indisputable value, his 1958 self-titled debut remains an unprecedented classic.
